Asus support web site down for last two days no ETA to fix

Have been trying to d/l f/w for my ac3200 for the past two days...web site not working, Asus tech support says they know about situation and are working on it, but no ETA to fix and no alternative way to d/l f/w. Unacceptable...they at least should have another way to get the f/w if they can't get the web site working.

Agreed. They should have enough mirror sites to ensure access to firmware updates. You cannot expect 100% uptime for any web site. However, with that said Asus should have reasonable contingencies in place. The problem is that reasonable is a very subjective descriptor open to different interpretations by the individuals involved.

Over the past few years, on at least two occasions (one of them being just last week) have I had similar issues with HP's website. I was at a customer's site installing two new PCs, and couldn't download the driver for their OfficeJet, as HP's download page kept getting stuck on a wait message. I had to tell the customer to track down his original CD (which took a good 10 minutes).

It happens to all of them, regardless of their size. You simply can't anticipate EVERY type of issues.

You probably weren't around 10-15 years ago, when downloading anything from Asus's website was an extreme exercise in patience. Their web server was so overloaded that pages would often even fail to fully load, and downloads were running at 20-30 KB/s. They were the worst support site I had to deal with, right after Matsonic's support site (5-8 KB/s if I was lucky). I'd say the current site is a major improvement over these old days.

Most corporations view their support sites as an expense, not as an asset or as a product that's being sold. It's just the way it is, and it's certainly not unique to Asus.
