Hi everyone,

Can anyone please help me,

I’ve got ASUS3200 running latest Merlin’s firmware, but I’m facing this issue, everyday once I move a bit further away from the router I can’t connect to 2,4Ghz. It says incorrect password, even tho I’ve connected to the network before and the phone remembers it. The only fix is to restart the router then it all works again. No issues with both 5Ghz at all they are rock solid.

Never seen that on my AC3200.

First thing I would do is remove, " forget" the 2.4Ghz connection in the phone and reset it.

Make sure you don't have another router with the same SSID, which your device might try to connect to when moving away from your router.

I too had this same issue with my AC3200 but it did not appear to be based on distance. Randomly I would not be able to connect Apple devices (iphone and ipad) just as described above. Resetting network never solved it. Never seemed to impact clients other than Apple. Only solution was to disconnect from the radio I normally used (5-1 HZ) and then reconnect to the other radios I normally did not use (2.4 or 5-2). I have numerous AC68U's in media bridge mode (all connected to 5-2 SSID) so I don't think I could have connected to a wrong device with same SSID. After a day or two it would always let me go back to the radio that was a problem (without any change in settings/resets/etc.). Once I replaced my 3200 with a 5300 the problems ceased. Did the 5300 fix the issue or did I correct a bad setting I had on the 3200? Who knows.

Any chance this was related to the setting that when enabled, causes the router to disconnect the device if it's signal drops below a certain threshold to expedite it moving to another access point in a multipoint system? I found that setting enabled today on the most recent factory firmware for a rt-ac86u, I am unfamiliar if the ops model supports that feature.

Hi, thanks for reaching out.

Sure there is no such a SSID around, only my router.

Hi,

Not only my phone, my ipad and my wife’s phone does that, so clearly not a phone issue

Hi

Thanks everybody for your input.
I ended up resetting the router to factory defaults. Still running Merlin’s latest firmware. The “incorrect password” issue seems to be solved, not sure 100% tho. Need to run a couple more days to confirm.

Does anyone experience any issues with smart connect? Mine seems to be working fine for a while and then once I move away from the router and at the moment when it needs to switch me from 5Ghz channel to 2,4Ghz d/t distance and signal drop what it does instead it says “incorrect password”. So i disabled smart connect. But I really want to have it working. Any ideas? Note: no wireless setting are touched, all factory defaults apart from SSID and password obviously.
