I enabled NFS, set export paths and access list. I installed the Windows 7 NFS client but always get an error 53 when trying to mount any share. I spent hours researching NFS and this problem.

I finally uninstalled the Windows client in favor of nfsaxe. Now I see why nothing I tried worked, there is a GID and UID required but I have no clue what they are for this firmware. I tried 0, 500, 1000, -2 but none work. The nfsaxe client can see NFS, I can browse but anytime I try to map a drive it prompts me for the GID/UID credentials.

Can anyone please tell me what the GID/UID needs to be for the ASUS RT-AC66U please? I don't know if its the device or firmware that determines it. It doesn't look like it was the windows client causing the issue I just didn't know what GID/UID to use.

My research hasn't produced any information on what these numbers should be for this device/firmware.

Make sure the client you use supports NFSv3. If it only supports NFSv2, you have to enable that version of the protocol on the router's NFS page. NFSv4 is not supported.

I only tested NFS mounting from a Linux client, so no idea about the various Windows clients, sorry.
 
nfsaxe supports all versions of NFS. I configured it for v3 but I also tried v2. I don't get the GID/UID prompt anymore but it still doesn't map a drive.

For the export paths I have /mnt * rw. I have tried variations like /mnt 192.168.x.x rw,insecure and /mnt 192.168.x.0/24 rw,insecure,other stuff none work.

I guess I just don't know what I'm doing.

I'm trying to use NFS because if I transfer GBs of data to the USB drive it causes the router to become very unstable then none of the shares can be accessed until I restart it. I thought NFS would resolve it.

Maybe your build will. :D I actually didn't try SMB with your build, maybe I will.

Unfortunately I'm not really an expert on NFS. I mostly use it with some of my customers to mount backup locations on their NAS, so I only worked with Linux clients.

Keep an eye on the router's System Log - it might give you some hints as to what is preventing the share from mounting.
