Issue: unable to configure LED lights off on an Aimesh node device. The node is in the bedroom, so having LED lights off is important.

Setup: RT-AX88u as the Aimesh provider and RT-AX56 as the Aimesh Node, with a wired backhaul. I configured the AX88 LEDs off (Administration > System > Basic Config > LED off "yes"). I did the same in the AX56 before setting it as a Node in Aimesh, however, the node did not retain the setting. The main unit does retain the setting. The firmware is Merlin 386.1 (latest release) on both routers

The AX56 IP is in the AX88 DHCP table at a fixed IP and I can ping the node IP when it is in the aimesh. However, I cannot reach the admin page. Some node settings (e.g. USB) can be reached via the AX88 admin page, but not the LED setting on the node.

Does anyone have a solution?

@Labdoc welcome to the forums.

Go to the AiMesh menu on the main router (left-hand tab). Select the node. Select Manage. Turn off LEDs for that node.

I'm assuming you're using 386.1_0 final.

Thanks. I do not see an option to change the LED setting. See the attached screenshot of the menu at AiMesh > Node > Management. Yes, I am using FW 386.1_0

Maybe that is a feature that is 'coming soon' to your model.

What model has this now, in your experience?
I did wonder about the AX56 -- the AiMesh capability was added only recently via a FW update. I picked up one on sale, perhaps being discontinued.

The RT-AX88U, the RT-AX86U, the RT-AC86U, the RT-AX58U, RT-AC68U. There are others too...

I can confirm that the AX58U has this option. But .. another weirdness here. The AX3000 (uses same FW as AX58U) is basically the same router with a different name for particular retail sale I believe, but DOES NOT have an option to turn on/off the LEDs. This isn't a big deal to me since I leave them on, but just something I thought was weird.

Wow! I saved about CAD$100 vs the AX58 -- maybe not such a good deal!

Use some of that saved cash to put a piece of black tape on the bedroom node. :)

Use the code below via ssh on the AiMesh node. This turns the LEDs off or on again.

Code:
nvram set led_disable=1
service restart_leds

:)

@eclp - Thanks for the code. Not needed with the latest FW 386.1_2
@L&LD - You were correct re "Maybe that is a feature that is 'coming soon' to your model." - now works with latest FW update
