Asuswrt-Merlin with Nextcloud's share folder functionality

Hi all,
On my RT-AX86U Pro I have samba and OpenVPN set up. I can access samba shares locally and when not at home, I can just connect with OpenVPN to my router and browse files on samba shares. So far so good.
I have been researching Nextcloud for some time, as an improvement to my set up. I read that if I include my files within Nextcloud, I should not run samba on the same files, 'cause Nextcloud keeps track of files/directorieswithin in it's own database.
And with Nextcloud, I'd have get another miniPC device, disk drives, maintain it etc ...
I still would like to have a great functionality from Nextcloud - being able to share local directory (Nextcloud generates the link) with public - so I can share this link, and ask anybody to drop files there:

I was wondering, if I am the only one whou would appreciate this, maybe there is an amtm script for it already or other solution for this to work ? I don't really need whole Nextcloud functionality, this is the only thing I need really :)

I can imagine it would require web app + SSL certificate and some more setup, should't be that difficult, am I wrong ? If it doesn't exist already I was thinking I might work on it .. (not saying I have all the knowledge needed to pull this one off)

Not gonna happen - this is a router, not a NAS, and it doesn't have the required hardware to handle something like this properly. Get a NAS, or a mini PC to handle file sharing.

Dear Mocnak, I'm fighting with my opnvpn configuration.
From my laptop when I'm not at home I can connect, I can ping the server on my local network and I can reach my various server running locally.

But I'm not able to connect to my Samba share.

Can you share your configuration with me?

Thank you

There's a guy that did a script somewhere on the forums a couple of years ago.... If there was a netcloud lightweight installation, it might be a possibility. Unfortunately most of what I sees is at least 2GB and couple of cores. Might work if some of the DBs were offloaded somehow.

There's also an android project to take old phones and get NextCloud running on them. I can say it doesn't work on a 10 year old Nexus 5x with 2GB of ram and at least 6 cores... Or doesn't seem to. However so many old phones laying around, would be a worthwhile project on slightly better hardware and probably better than buying a beefed up Asus router 1/ a big SSD to act as a NAS. Better than a Raspberry Pie setup IMO. Then you add on some of the other features and maybe even Kali Nethunter.....
