Can I use the AX88U Merlin firmware on AX56U? has anybody tested it?

Nope. Wait for the real thing if supported or use stock Asus.

58u is Broadcom based. Merlin can’t write firmware for every Asus router that comes out but like I said it’s working really well on asus firmware.

Just a heads up on this router. BB has it on sale for $159.00 today.
Just be aware this is only a two stream router. When/if you have AX devices this might not matter, but if you have any 3+ stream AC devices they will actually be slower with this router than a 3+ stream AC router. Same with the RT-AX58U.

Im well aware of its capabilities. That being said I have a total of 18 clients mixed AX and AC and I haven’t seen any slowdowns at all with any of them. Matter of fact performance isin’t far off of my AX88U. For $159 it’s easily the best deal out there on a WiFi6 router without spending a small fortune.

I see Asuswrt-Merlin now support both RT-AX56U and RT-AX58U.

I don't find many posts here about RT-AX56U, anyone who owns this router and have any experience to share, good/bad?

I have used this router for a week now and it seem to be stable and a great buy.

You need to keep posting then! :)

Welcome to the forums. Please share any other details and information with your experience with the RT-AX56U and RMerlin firmware.

Did you know that RMerlin received an RT-AX56U to be able to support it better? :)

If you haven't already flashed RMerlin firmware yet, please consider doing so for science!

You may want to look at the link in my signature below too if you run into any issues too.

HTH. :)

it's in general a very good router. but i've been having some issues - my iphone 11pro max won't connect to the 5GHz network from time to time (put in password, connecting.. then it says no IP address, and no internet connection), while the other devices are well connected. i'm not sure if it's an iPhone issue, or router hardware, or firmware. Tried go trouble shoot with restarting iphone, restoring network settings on iPhone, didn't work. also tried restarting router, didn't work. and then all of sudden it connects..

seeems my AC1900 was more stable....

I don't have any iphones but on google you find many posts about iPhone 11 Pro Max with wifi issues. So it seem to be a problem with hw on phone (not a router issue).

Missing lan connections, wifi, 2.4 and 5 do not turn on, I can’t get any access to the router at all. After installing the latest firmware from asus website. Can I perform a factory reset with the buttons, is there a cfe bootloader or firmware restoration, or contacts and files for uart? help the router 3 days.

An update to my original post 2 so long ago! :)

Both the RT-AX56U and the RT-AX58U are RMerlin capable now. :)

Any issue on stock firmware is an automatic vote to flash RMerlin firmware (the 384.18 Alpha 1 is also stable too) right away. :)

Don't forget to do a full reset to factory defaults/Initialize all settings afterward and then do a minimal and manual configuration (do not use a saved config file) to secure the router and connect to your ISP. :)

Not a good idea. That build is definitely not ready for prime time usage. For instance, the webui code isn't in sync with the driver code used by the RT-AX88U and RT-AX56U, so these two have a few Wireless settings that will NOT work properly (for instance, the OFDMA setting).

Thank you RMerlin. I guess I don't play with those settings to notice it. :)
