Correct, if you select it, so not the default.

My point was... ASUS leads their customers to use Smart Connect by default... why would they do this if the function was so unstable and useless.

Not only Smart Connect but also many options are enabled by default. Because it's a marketing tactic and annoying psychotic activities. ASUS MBs are same, Armoury Garbage Crate installation is enabled by Default at MB BIOS level. ASUS routers? They say 'How to make my router more secure?' UPnP is enabled by default.
