I would like to replace my old wifi router(using it as access point) with a new solution… I live in a 2 store family house, and have ethernet connections in a few rooms around the house. We are away from populated spaces, so no much interference from neighbors.
All devices apart from laptop and mobile phones are on gigabit Ethernet, so I don’t have a need for a speedy wifi. I only wish to have reliable and consistent wireless signal throughout the house and preferably on the yard in front of it.
I wish to have green, healthy, low-energy solution – meaning not too strong radios and preferably something than can turn itself off on schedule (during night).
Until now I had two independent routers (different brands/models) – one on ground floor, other a floor above - both working as access points. Which worked kind of OK. Although both had same SSID configured, my connected devices lost connectivity when moving around the house.

I still think this is better than having one big router with strong radio. And in order to improve things I have been looking at mesh networks, but don’t want all the backhaul radio activity between nodes, as I have Ethernet around the house. Same story with range extenders…
What I’d like is probably two lower-powered routers, both connected to Ethernet but aware of each other, so that connected devices would roam between both in a seamingless way. Alternatively adding a third router for covering outdoor should be possible. Maybe something with MIMO antennas so that range is as good as possible – all without powerful radios… I dont need additional functionality so they can be access points not full featured routers.
Also, I don’t need or want 5Ghz or AC (or dual radio setup), as I think it is an overkill for my needs.
Ideas? Recommendations?
