I'm replacing a couple of old NV+'s, likely with a single DS1813+. Likely config will be 3 mirrored pairs of 3tb drives. I like the redundancy and read performance and given the per drive cost see no need to try to maximize space or complicate life with RAID.

I'm leaning towards WD WD30EFRX. I got bit really bad by the IBM/Hitachi every-drive-will-fail fiasco in the early 90's and still can't bring myself to buy something that says Deskstar. I've had pretty good luck with Seagate's since then, but it seems from several sources that they've gone downhill the past few years, so WD it is.
This is used primarily for media editing (photo, video) with most daily work stored locally (mac pro's, airs, and various windows) though not unusual to have to work off the NAS for some projects.
I'd appreciate any comments/advice on my plan and drive choice.
Thanks,
