New Around Here
I'm still struggling between Synology and Qnap as to which product I'm going to plump for. From what i can see, having compared numerous models from both manufacturers the Synology seems better value for money with similar spec machines for around £100 less at each step up the ladder.

Qnap offers the hot swap drives and extra e-sata and lan ports, but that seems the only benefits for the extra £100. The big deciding factor for me when choosing could come down to the interface, is one better than the other?

Some reviews/comments here, and my own opinion after using the on-line demos, Synology's user interface is better.

For backup, I think eSATA or USB3 is key.

But I don't own one.

Only the very top end systems have the USB3 port though, the synology systems dont have it on any of their range do they? and even the Qnap systems don't have it until you reach the very expensive TS-459 Pro II.

I think eSATA is supported on less expensive units.

I struggled for a long time too. Not because of the UI though, it was only part of the equation.

With the latest Synology x12 series, Synology has clearly won.

But to Simply answer your questions, in terms of UI, Synology has been better then Qnap for a long long time.
