At present we are using a AC68U with Merlin's firmware of course and its handling it like a champ but the amount of data going through it now is making things a little toasty for its dual core. (110-115)

The simple answer is of course buy the newest and greatest but some of these are designed with gaming and the like in mind.

Some may have flaws or just not be so great.

Thoughts?

We shall eventually down the road go rack mount of course but that's for later development

Go with the flagship of the fleet AC86U...

For the amount of money you'd need to spend for a RT-AC86U, and considering you will be using it for business, I'd rather consider buying a wired router like Ubiquiti EdgeRouter Lite, and use AC68U as AP. Upgrade APs later on when WPA3 is out.

I would think for business you need a router which can support POS and VLANs for staff and guest. A Ubiquiti or maybe the Cisco RV340 router and an AP. The cisco WAP581 wireless access point supports 200 connections. It would be prefect for like a restaurant.

I can highly recommend the ubiquiti kit also.

You should also check out Cisco Meraki, they offer great kit and cloud management, this option is very flexible with little to build locally to get it operational.

Thanks
