I'm trying to put a solution together for my parents. They live in the boonies, yet they can get good speed from Sprint. My idea is to purchase a Nexus 5 from Google, add it to their Sprint account. That should get them fast tubez. I would like to use the USB port from the phone as the "WAN" for a firewall/router/AP. The USB connection should be faster than WiFi.

This is probably overkill for my parents. It's just a crazy idea. Does anyone know of a router that would use a USB WWAN card/phone as a WAN? I'm checking out cheap pfSense devices as well. Thanks!

I'd get a Cradlepoint MBR-95 router on eBay like new/used. You can plug the cellular data USB modem into it. Plug and play.

Otherwise, you're into hacking that you don't want to foist upon your parents.
