Who knows - I suspected it was fake news, and suggested that in my post - I'm also curious how they're getting fast chips and selling them at a low price -.

I think a plausible legal explination for their cheap prices is that they buy closeouts, discontinued and small lots of left over processors for low prices. If you look at Qotom's product line it seems to be ever changing as they build what they have the parts for that week.

When I had my mini PC open all the parts appeared to be from the manufacturers advertised , but then faking labeling is probably much easier than making fake parts.

In any case it has been working fine since May 15th and time will tell if will hold up.

I've had many tp-links (wr740, wr841, archer c7 x2)* and my family and friends have many (overall ~15 devices) and not a single one had a problem... In fact I am VERY happy with them and many are compatible with openWRT / DDWRT which allows you to setup pretty much anything on them including VPN service

* I had many because I am in IT and like to play with them (now I have OpenWRT on c7 which runs as my NAS - with memory stick connected, dns server, openVPN server, dynamic DNS client, and uses WAN via 4G from SALT, and runs on AC wifi speeds)

About VPN, I personally use ExpressVPN and no issues yet. Here I would recommend seeing one of the comprehensive reviews about Express on Privacytips.co
