Some new issues.

I am experiencing 5Ghz wifi Degradation on performance. I am going from 70-90Mbps down to like 3-5. This is using 339 firmware. Also another side effect is the connection is not consistent, it will like "Hang" then go on as normal then "hang" while doing something like browsing/speed test.

My roommate says he's experienced that as well a few times since I set up our AC68R recently. Did you find a solution by chance or any additional info about this?

So trying to rule out the cable modem I bought a SB6141 (white) and tried to pair it with the router. Same dam issues took me many resets to get it to work. It would pair at times without the wan ip then other times not at all.

Something is def wrong with these routers. I don't know how you guys don't have any issues maybe the U version is slightly different vs the R even though it's just retail vs online designation.

Did you ever resolve this as I just purchased a RT-AC68R and have the same damn issues? Won't see my WAN connection through either a Draytek 2800 or Netcomm modem but my existing EA6500 does. Have got it to work one time but going made rebooting and resetting this thing waiting for the WAN light to come on. Seems very flaky detecting the modem connection. [DSL modem, PPoA connection, DHCP WAN assignment from ISP]

Firmware is 3.0.0.4.374.4561.

Make sure the Ethernet cable between the router and the modem is Cat5e or better. Older Cat5 cables won't work reliably since the router has a Gigabit port (while your previous router might have had only a Fast Ethernet port).

To be sure, replace the Ethernet cable entirely.

I've seen quite a few issues with routers and Motorola modems. Seems to be specific to Motorola. I have a Thompson myself, working flawlessly.

Thanks @RMerlin

I ended up putting in an old Dynalink RTA1335 basic modem and the AC68 seems happy to 'talk' to that. I tried using the Vigor 2800 with PPoE/PPoA passthrough enabled and then setting the AC68 for PPoE mode and while this worked, my Internet connection became very intermittent.

Been connected now for 12+ hours which is the longest I've had it running and even managed to unplug the AC68 and have everything come back up when reconnected. Fiber coming to my house in May so I'll have a Gigabit Ethernet port inside the house so everything should be sweet from there on out.

One relatively inexpensive trick people could try if they have a Motorola modem that doesn't talk reliably with their Asus router is to put a cheap Gigabit switch between the modem and the router, only to act as a "buffer". That might help resolving any compatibility issues that might exist between the Moto and the Asus Ethernet interfaces.

I just purchased the RT-AC68U on the 13th of this month as soon as i hooked it up i flashed Merlin build 374_39 and reset and configured it and it has been rock solid i have not a to reboot the router one time. I have the Zoom 5341J for my modem.

Change DHCP lease renew time to normal. Mine did the same thing when it was set to aggressive.
