Okay,

So this router is literally driving me insane with it's issues and I'm wondering if there's any solutions.

#1) I will have to reset my cable modem (Not from ISP I bought myself it's a Motorola SB6120) Like 50 times and go through the Asus Wan setup and it won't detect it over and over and over and over till the point that on 1 reset it will detect it and then NO ip and I have to repeat this over and over. I Tried this on ANY OTHER Router IT WORKS with just 1 reset perfectly on the R7000 and any of the other routers I have.

#2) WAN will randomly loose it's IP Address and then force me to go through my first problem 50 times before it detects the wan again.

#3) I will turn the lights off on the router and when these issues come up lights will just turn back on by themselves even though the button is set to off.

I have tested an R7000 no issues 1 reset of the modem to pair with the new router works flawless and never drops my connection.

I have also bought another RT-AC68R does the same thing. This is on firmware 339 for both. It did this with the 374 version of the firmware as well.

Any solutions??

I use a RT-AC68U with a Motorola SB6141 (also aftermarket) and I only had to reset the modem once, this was when I first got it and it was running fw 158. I have run my RT-AC68U with all the firmwares as they come out, most pulled at some point. I had some issues with wifi but never with WAN or wired LAN.

Sorry this is not a solution for you but I doubt this is an issue that affects all units.

Same here - running stable with SB6141 on all firmwares.

Here's the thing it's only this router that has this issue, when I was testing the Net gear R7000 it worked fine 1 reset and never dropped the connection or anything. But the asus 1 from amazon and 1 from bestbuy both do the same thing with the surfboard 6120 modem. However the net gear fine no issues.

You guys are using the 6141, you think there's some incompatibility with the 6120?

I had issues when trying to set mine up on comcast originally. I left everything off for a few minutes and didnt clone the normal MAC I use and it worked. Not sure of the firmware version anymore.

Can you show us your system log? Remove your WAN IP from the log when you copy it on here. or send it to me in PM.

The modem usually acts as a bridge and the router just sees a lan connection. Unless the modem is dropping connectivity itself or has excessive packet loss, I don't see how the router can have issues. You can imagine the modem in abstract as a 2 port switch with one port connected to the wan of the ac68 and the other to an internet gateway with dhcp server.

Log is too long to post here it is I have attached a PDF with the log.

I just went through it and noticed some area's

So many DHCP errors and then bug etc. What's funny is that it's only this router that's doing this other routers are working fine so what's the cause?

you can also see how many times it tries to detect the connection and the resets I did.

Hopefully this will shed some light on the situation.

I have the 6121 and haven't had one issue with the cable modem pairing with the rt-ac68u or any dropped connections/lost dhcp, etc.

I did however set my dhcp from aggressive to normal on the wan settings on day 1. Some providers will boot you from their network if you hammer them with dhcp requests.

So trying to rule out the cable modem I bought a SB6141 (white) and tried to pair it with the router. Same dam issues took me many resets to get it to work. It would pair at times without the wan ip then other times not at all.

Something is def wrong with these routers. I don't know how you guys don't have any issues maybe the U version is slightly different vs the R even though it's just retail vs online designation.

U and R are identical. Did you check if you have stable connection from the modem directly to a computer? Also, did you switch to normal dhcp polling?

Connection is stable Links 8 Channel down with the new 6141 modem up from 4 from the old 6120. I get 100Mbps+ on downstream no issues at all with the connection it's fine.

ISP is Charter. Had it hooked up directly to the pc as well no issues (had to when setting up the new modem)

The only thing I could find is on amazon reviews of the product someone else with charter has a similar issue. Asus and charter not playing nice?

The Internet setup wizard is the issue here on the wan side.

As Jaded mentioned before:

"set dhcp from aggressive to normal on the wan settings" -with Charter this is a must.

yep, Charter will kick you off the network for aggressive DHCP requests. YOU MUST SET TO NORMAL.

Okay so let say normal mode fixes the getting knocked off, what about the Wan detection issue.

I've set it to normal and well see how it goes over the weekend.

Okay,
..

..

This happens all the time on all released stock firmware. I switched to Kong-AC DD-WRT build and it has been rock solid.

Should be same issue. They will boot you and then you will be "banned" from the network for a period of time. Good luck and let us know

Some Updates.

#1) So far I haven't been disconnected from my Wan! So I'm guessing normal mode is/was the answer

#2) Regarding the detection of the wan here's what I've discovered.

Step 1. I Disconnect the SB6141 Power for about a minute and then plug it in.

Step 2. As soon as the lights turn blue both the router link and the net side I run the Setup Wizard.

Step 3. Setup wizard finds the connection and then sends me to the Wifi config page.

Step 4. Upon completion however the WAN does not contain an Ip Address(Note the Wan side is set to normal)

Step 5. I unplug the router for 2 + Min then plug it back and and it will receive an ip and the internet will work.

So basically that's how I can do it without having to reset the modem/router like 50 times till it just connects. It is still screwed up compared to the R7000 which is just 1 modem reset and bam connects.

Some new issues.

I am experiencing 5Ghz wifi Degradation on performance. I am going from 70-90Mbps down to like 3-5. This is using 339 firmware. Also another side effect is the connection is not consistent, it will like "Hang" then go on as normal then "hang" while doing something like browsing/speed test.
