Had the exact same issue due to an incomplete pull... Stick with Ubuntu 12 LTS and recreate your asuswrt-merlin folder by entirely deleting it and downloading the repo once again - https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Compile-Firmware-from-source-using-Ubuntu
