New Around Here
Hi. I need a router. Scheme: Q, A (candidate)

Do you want a possibility to connect it to a printer?
- Yes (all 3)

Do you want to use it as a cheap media server?
- I would like to (R6400 - fastest)

Do you like frequent updates with no planned obsolescence?
- I hate for my hardware to die because of manufacturer's foul play (Asus)

Are you afraid of flashing custom ROMs?
- No, but my knowledge about compatibility and features is limited (please advise - knowledge generation in progress, reading about Asuswrt-Merlin)

Would you like to control your user base?
- Yes. Please. (C8 - but I would like to know one thing though - can I create users and assign MACs to them so that all of the user's devices share bandwith, or is it MAC - bandwith only?

Are you a 2.4GHz or 5GHz kinda guy?
- 5GHz Master Race is the name of my SSID.

How many devices will be connected?
- Me and my GF use:
2xPC with 5GHz Intel 7260 2x2 Dual Band
Moto E - 2.4GHz
Tablet - RMA'd, probably 2.4
My phone - To be bought - 5GHz

Now to all of this add 4-10 devices of my roommates.

QoS?
- I guess it wouldn't hurt when my roomies download "Naked girls go wild vol 1-58"

Is network congestion an issue?
- Well, here in Poland people are poor and not that aware of networking issues so let me put it this way: my 5GHz network was the only one visible last time I checked. 2.4GHz is tragic tho...

How big is your house?
- 0 meters. I don't have a house. I'm currently renting a flat. I will be renting a new one soon. Not sure how it will look like. In this one I have 1 wall and about 5 meters separating me from modem (to which I will connect my router)

Pricing in Poland:
Archer C8 - 428PLN
Netgear R6400 - 460PLN
Asus RT-AC66U - 565PLN

I earn about 1800PLN monthly which is roughly 400USD. I feel most comfortable in a 100USD price range so about 400-500PLN.

If you have other ideas and would like to check a price in PLN:
Ceneo - polish pricing comparison website / not all products may be there
Morele - one of my favourite shops - low prices, huge inventory, local delivery point

If there is a high probability of new hardware coming soon I can wait too.

UPDATE:
Reading, comparing, reading, more comparing, more reading...
I think I would like to use Advanced Tomato. Seems that R6400 would be my best choice since it's not that expensive and has AT support. Asus has more distros (?) though.
