New Around Here
Hi there,
I'm wondering what anyone thinks of the super fast WD MyBook Live NAS. It's being sold like a consumer toy, but it's extremely fast like a Cisco NAS and I'm wondering if it's actually very limited professionally. I'm now in the camp of not caring about mirrored RAID for my purposes (frame serving uncompressed visual effects media) because I backup every day, so this drive I'm hoping is a perfect fit.

This is in regard to article: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-news/31297-wd-announces-100-mbs-single-drive-nas

Anyone?

Thanks!

Depends on what you mean by "professionally". What are your requirements?

Just wondering if perhaps the speed is only limited to some playstation media thing, or maybe it has some software that you have to use or something with itunes or movies or something silly like that. We're hoping to just plug it into the switch and have it just perform like any NAS would. Is it the same thing?

Thanks

I would expect the saying 'if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't' to apply here.

Sorry, you mean "isn't" too good to be true? Or probably "isn't" true?

Guess I'm just going to have to have them test it in store. Gotta see this is action.

It's a real NAS if that's what you mean and will share files just fine.

Question about the AC adapter ?

Hi all,

Thank you for the My Book Live review. I am interested in buying the 2TB one (reference WDBACG0020HCH).

I live in France and this product is not yet for sale in my country.
I would like to buy this hard drive from a US shop and would like to know what kind of power supply is provided in the US package : especially if the hard drive can be powered on the 220 volts (european standard) with no risk and no need for a complementary AC adaptor except the one already included in the box.
(FYI : I have bought 6 different WD external drives in France, and the french packages always included the US, the UK and the european AC adapters.)

Thanks in advance.

Supply is 100 - 240 VAC 50/60 Hz. You'll need to provide a plug adapter, however.

My Book Live will be available in France in around 2 weeks.

Thank you guest !

For those interested in this NAS, it looks like there is a 3TB (reference : wdbacg0030hch) version available :

Strangely, it is not mentionned on western digital's website :
http://wdc.com/en/products/index.asp?cat=14

But gets mentionned on the following websites :
http://www.macconnection.com/1/1/36...ve-home-network-drive-wdbacg0030hch-nesn.html
http://www.postescanada.ca/magasineur/items/4845374/Western-Digital-My-Book-Live-wdbacg0030hchnesn
http://www.provantage.com/western-digital-wdbacg0030hch-nesn~7WNDG2R2.htm

I hope all 3 versions (1TB, 2TB and 3TB) will be available within 15 days in Europe.

Yes, sorry I meant too good to be true, and so it appears (to be too good to be true), per Tim's review.
