Can you factory reset over wifi and do the whole start page setup or do you need to be wired connected?

You should be able to...you'll obviously need to log in again with the factory default user name and password *smile*, but it should work. Unless you run into one of those weird Asus admin login lock outs, but I don't see why you would if you just reset the router.

Whats the factory default username and password? also is there a default wireless password?

1. unplug the router (yes physically unplug it)
2. hold the WPS button down and plug the router back in
3. slow-count to 5 and release the WPS button
the router is now reset to factory defaults

What does this do that the other ways dont?

Username : admin
Password : admin

no special wireless password until you set it up.....

As far as changes over wireless, firmware and config files seem to upload fine.....
It's always recommended to use wired connections (in case the wireless connection gets dropped)

It's pretty much up to you.....you don't even need to do factory resets, but once again, it's recommended..

Hope that helps....

I am going to be upgrading my firmware from the stock Asus firmware to Merlin and Merlin has recommended doing a factory reset. Is there any way to easily restore my port forwardings and Wifi setsups (SSIDs, passwords, etc) or do I have to start from scratch?

It's best to reconfigure from scratch.

If you have a lot of stuff to type and have a hard time remembering, you can use the printscreen function (or snipping tool) on your computer to take and save screenshots (or use snipping tool) of all of your screens before hand. And then just go through your screen shots when reconfiguring.
