cannot have full ISP speed and netflix app at the same time with my N66

New Around Here
I have a bit of a weird situation...

1. Got a new TV during the holidays that has a few apps, including Netflix.
2. I also got a bandwidth upgrade around the same time from 50/5 to 300/20.
3. I have a N66 with the latest Merlin firmware.

My inital speed test, from a laptop connected straight to my modem (SB6141) gave me 250~ mbps down, 20 up. OK I figured I was not going to get 300 mbps anyway so I consider it my max speed given my location.

The following speed tests were with my N66 and they were getting 100/115Mbps down and 20 up.
I played around with my configuration and noticed that I was able to get my max speed back if I turned off QoS (IP Traffic has always been off in the mean time - note that I didn't need to turn on HW acceleration either).
I don't explain it but accepted the situation... Until I noticed that the Netflix app on my new TV will not connect anymore! It took me a while to figure out that I had to turn QoS back on for it to connect again. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

I also connected the tv straight to the modem and it worked fine.

So I somehow see the relation between QoS and getting max speed after reading this thread http://www.snbforums.com/threads/rt-n66u-unable-to-utilize-300mbps-internet-service.19850/

But the issue with Netflix seems unheard of. At least my google skills have not showed me so.

Any thoughts on this? I'd appreciate any input you guys may have because I'm at loss here :)

edit: did one more test with QoS off and NAT acceleration off and Netflix back and my speed is now peaking at 170mbps (CPU peaks at 100% too though) so I guess it's my best case scenario. Feel still free to educate my poor self if you have any idea of what's going on...

Your modem is probably capping your speed. If you want the full bandwidth you are paying for consider upgrading to an Aris 6183 or its equivalent. Run your Speedtests using an Ethernet connection.

You also need to run a utility such as LAN Speeptest to be sure your LAN can handle speeds in excess of 100 Mbps and test your network to see what it is really capable of. LAN speeds are not dependent on what your router setting are as its function of the hardware switch built into the router.

With you bandwidth package you have you should not need to enable QOS. Netflix for a single stream doesn't require more than 5 Mbps for a HD stream. Having some headroom will help prevent buffering but in most cases 10 Mpbs should be plenty.

My recommendation is be sure that your N66 has the latest firmware either ASUS or Merlin and then do a factory reset to default settings then one by one apply the settings you need above and beyond passwords and WiFi SSIDs and paraphrases.

You also might want to assign your smart TV a static IP.

I can confirm that a N66 can handle 900Mbps+ of LAN traffic. Mine serves as an AP and switch only and I have been able to nearly peg out my GF connection through the LAN ports of that device. This is switched traffic....not routed. No way the N66 can handle those kinds of routed speeds.
