hard reset, setting up the router and changing SSIDs and passwords and now I can access the GUI and router seems to be operating normally. I could always ping the router.
thanks again for all the help! I'll be back if I have problems.
this is the second time in a month I've been unable to access GUI...and several times I've lost internet connectivity, though I was connected to this router. few times i've lost the networked printer as well, had to reinstall.

help pls; windows 8.1 will not show me the wireless profiles to delete. It doesn't allow me to change the wired profile. this pc keeps logging onto the old SSID. I have internet but it's under the old SSID. i cannot connect to gui again. how can I delete the network profiles on windows, and add the new profiles?

After you have deleted the old wireless profiles (and I would recommend you delete all the old ones you find while in there), you can then re-associate the router and client again as if you were connecting for the first time.

more info; Windows 7 laptop has been able to forget the old SSIDs; replace with the new SSIDs; and shows router GUI and has internet connectivity. I've finally been able to delete and replace the new profile wireless connection with windows 8.1 pc; but same pc is not allowing me to replace the old SSID for the ethernet profile. ( I believe that's why i lose internet periodically...ever since I changed the SSIDs of router twice in the past 5 months...)
How can I change the Ethernet profile in 8.1? I already changed Windows Credentials of my user account to reflect the new SSIDs and passwords. Successfully changed the wireless profile in the same pc. I'd rather not mess with the registry if I didn't have to...

so I've successfully deleted the wireless profiles; but the 8.1. isn't allowing me to delete the old ethernet profile. It is connecting to the router; and I'm able to access the GUI; I have internet; but it's showing the old SSID, so I believe that will be a problem in the future.

I've successfully deleted the old SSID wireless profiles; but the 8.1. wasn't allowing me to delete the old ethernet profile. The pc was connecting to the router; and I'm able to access the GUI; I have internet; but it continued to show only the old ethernet SSID, so I believe that will be a problem in the future.
Then, I edited in the Registry and changed the old SSID to the new SSID; which already is a User Profile, so I hope that doesn't mess things up by having now 2 of the new SSID ethernet user profile names in the registry.

success; changed the old ethernet SSID profile name in the registry to the new SSID name; and the network icon now reads the correct SSID for ethernet. 1 week and the router is working as expected. Thanks to all for your suggestions!
