I just installed Diversion on my new Asus RT-AC86U
Installing it worked well, but I still seem to have adds when I surf the web.
Is there something else I should do to enable it?

How do I know that the SW is working?

You need to make sure all your clients are using the router IP for DNS. Do not put any external DNS IPs in LAN DHCP DNS fields, or else clients will bypass dnsmasq with Diversion running on your router.

you have a choice of how much or little gets blocked.
i personally prefer the Small blocking file,
even though i still see plenty of ads,
few of them are a nuisance or malware.

i found the Standard blocking file interfered
too much with various retail link referrals i need,
i see many referral tracking links are wise to adblocks
so they double referral, thus obscuring their landing url.
