Cant get to the outside world

Hey guys../Merlin....
I have a couple of questions... how many devices can Asus merlin support? (I'm running RT-AC88U). I ask because I have about 80 devices, and I have had a couple of strange issues. A couple months ago, I had an xbox that would connect to my network, but couldnt reach the xbox network. All of a sudden I now have a laptop that gets on my network, but cant reach the outside world. (I know its a router problem, I swapped the ASUS out with a ddwrt and it worked, when I put the Asus back, same problem).
The fix for the xbox was reset the router. I dont want to do that again because the setup takes a long time. What can I take a look at to see why the laptop cant reach the outside world? There are no Time schedules or anything blocked in the webif.
Any ideas?

Thanks guys!

There shouldn't be a problem with 80+ devices. Are they all connected at the same time? That doesn't sound like a typical home setup.

You say the laptop can't reach the outside world. Does this happen all the time or intermittently? If you are connecting wirelessly try with a wired connection instead, any change?

You can't connect to the outside, what about the LAN? Can you ping the IP address of another LAN device? Can you ping the router's IP address? Can you ping Google (8.8.8.8)?

Also have a look in the router's syslog for any clues.

any filtering and or parental controls , does the laptop have its ipv4 set to obtain dhcp and dns automatically

are you using the same ssid name and passphrase as with the dd wrt as this can confuse the remembered details

Sorry it took so long to get back.... It started working out of the blue. Perhaps its a hardware issue with the laptop....
