Hi,

I currently own a Dlink DIR-655 and it works well... However I would like higher throughput when using WPA2.

Would a router with a faster processor be able to encrypt/decrypt WPA2 which in turn would increase throughput?

I'm considering if I should purchasing a Cisco Aironet 1250 with the assumption that it would handle WPA2 better than my DIR-655.

Of course, it would be nice if SmallNetBuilder reviewed the Cisco Aironet. It would be interesting to see how it competes with low end wireless routers.

You might just try a different client, assuming you have already updated to the latest firmware.

Don't hold your breath on seeing any Cisco products (other than Linksys) reviewed. Cisco will not provide product for review.

I doubt the Cisco would be any faster, as more than anything they go for security. To top that, the Airnet's are a pain to set up, compaired to consumer grade devices like the DIR-655. Most Cisco devices also rely more on it's own security protocls, and not WPA/WPA2/WEP. Most of it you can find here

I recently ordered a 1250 to replace my dir-655, I should receive it within two weeks. If you want I can do some testing for you when I get it. I still have the dir-655 and a laptop in which I can try atheros AR5008, Intel 4965 and 3945 cards, just tell me what you want me to do.

I don't know about previous Aironets, but the first time you plug in a 1250 it sends a DHCP request for an IP address, and can then be configured completely from http(s), see the Software Configuration Guide for details.

One thing you should know: An AC adapter is not included, as you can choose either a standard wall plug adapter, or an Ethernet Power Injector.

Thanks for the offer, but I can't use any test results that are done with a different set up.

Just report your findings back to this thread.

Thiggins:
I understand that my results won't be comparable to your standard test method. I guess I'll simply compare the current transfer speed at various locations for the two access points with WPA enabled and post the results.
