Don't really know what's going on but I updated my 2 86u's (one is the main and the other mesh node) along with my old 3100 as a mesh node using the Asus app via my computer this morning. Seemed like everything was working well until my daughter told me that her laptop keeps disconnecting from the Wi-Fi.

I went to check and sure enough it shows her laptop wireless adapter continuing to disconnect from the taskbar and then reconnect. Also, her iPad cannot connect to the Wi-Fi, as it states that the Wi-Fi password is incorrect. Of course when I log into the Asus router everything is the same and the password is correct.

The weird thing is that all my devices connected via Ethernet are working fine. Thinking there might be an issue with the mesh network, but why is wired working fine. Going to turn off the mesh nodes and then reboot the main router, wait a bit and then turn both node routers back on and see if this fixes it. Any ideas why this is happening fellas?

What version did you update from and did you factory reset? I'm considering trying an update from 287 to 308 without resetting but anything prior I would definitely reset and power cycle.

Well, seems like turning the nodes off and then rebooting the main router, waiting a few minutes and then turning the nodes back on seems to have fixed the issue with the clients disconnecting. I'll keep and eye out though and post back if the problem returns

ive found the power cycle between updates a very important factor...I don't know the insides but its almost like some of the hardware inside retains settings from the previous firmware after updating until power cycled

Never heard of having to factory reset Router hardware prior to firmware updates. Should be able to update on the fly as seeing when the firmware is updating, the router never disconnects. I usually do hard reboot after updating firmware by unplugging or pushing the power button on the routers though

Yeah, seems like rebooting and power cycling the router, especially in the order I described above when dealing with mesh networks/nodes is a needed and good practice

I meant factory reset if your fw version was prior to the 287 released a couple days ago.. this 308 was just released today to fix the fw update page on the router only.

Oh ok, I got ya. Yes I did factory reset both brand new 86U's after updating to the initial 10007 for mesh compatibility when I first got them. I also factory reset my 3100 before and after I updated it as well. Those were the only times though. Thanks for the reply

The only difference in 20287 and the latest Hot fix firmware 20308 is the fix for routers showing there was a firmware upgrade in progress when there was not.

Personally never had the issue but updated anyway just to be current.
