New Around Here
I just got a new Arris modem/router from Time Warner Cable to take advantage of their Maxx speeds - replaced a Motorola Sufboard modem I bought myself but wouldn't work with whatever magic they do to make Maxx work.

In the diagram below that Arris (192.168.0.1) is in the middle of the screen and off to the left it connects to my iMac running iTunes (192.168.0.5).

When using rhe old Surfboard modem I was using my own ASUS RT-AC87U as network router and wireless.

Now though the ARRIS gives it a 192.168.0.2 address, and on the ASUS it considers its own LAN address as 192.168.1.2 and all the devices attached to that have a 192.168.1.x address.

The ASUS allows me to configure a VPN which does not exist on the ARRIS so I want to keep using that to work with my Apple TV (192.168.1.10) And I can get that to work.

However when I do that I can't then seem to get my Apple TV to connect to my iMac running iTunes to play my music and movies.

Should this work as is, or do I need to play with routes etc - which in the case of the Apple TV I wouldn't be able to do anyway.

Any hekp gratefully received.

The easy no worry solution is to put your modem into bridge mode and use the ASUS router as the main router. This way your workstation is inside the same network as the AppleTV and no VPN is required.

TWC can make that happen. I just called them for my TWC connection. I told them I wanted the modem in bridge mode with an outside IP address on my router.

I tried that at first, and though successful, I was not getting the Maxx speeds from any device connected to the ASUS, was just getting the base speeds. TWC couldn't help with that.

Can you get the Computer running iTunes off of the Arris modem and onto the Asus router?

Bonjour has major issues crossing subnets and I am 99% sure that is the issue.

I think he is running his computer off the Arris modem because it is faster than the ASUS. You would think the ASUS would be as fast as the Arris.
