The process described was not intended to be the nuclear option and only resets all the personal data. Whilst you end up back with the same version installed it is after rewriting the firmware with different versions and clearing all personal data. This usually works to clear most problems
The Nuclear option cannot be done purely via the GUI. It requires accessing the router shell/prompt via telnet and involves direct instructions to clear everything. This works but comes with a risk warning - per Kamoj FAQ's
"WARNING: This might brick your router .... be sure you know what you are doing, and I take no responsibility if you brick your router"
I may be wrong, but I got the impression from Michael's post that he is not an advanced router and may not be comfortable going this route to start with - especially if the other route clears the problem. If it does not then he can try the Nuclear route - even that doesn't reinstall the version it arrived with but it does clear everything out and leave a clean initial firmware.
