Hello Everyone,

I have been using Merlin for about 6 months now and it has been great.

I am currently using two satellite modems through Bentley Walker and have the WAN set to load-balance. Each connection is a 6/2 and has a avg ping to Google.com @ 701ms and 800ms Ping to my server in Oregon.

We've been having issues with FaceTime, Hangouts, and Skype calls disconnected at random times, I'm thinking it may have to do with SSL connections being timed out, is there TCP/UDP settings I can tweak with to allow for longer response times?

I have QoS enabled with the Ports for all 3 VoIP set to the highest priority, we can reconnect pretty fast but will still have disconnects later on or have to spend some time "re-dialing"

Running a N66U with 374.43 Merlin

are you by chance pppoe? it would be easy to test lowering your MTU if you were; i don't think changing TCP from defaults will help you much.

if you are not PPPoE, you could still test lowering your MTU, but it would require a script. in this case, you should test first with a machine directly attached to the modem.

No it's not PPPoE, it's DHCP. I see a MTU setting in the WAN page, I can lower that and see how it works? How would I test this to make sure I am at the correct MTU?

Disconnects also happen for downloads that last more than 30 seconds, some cannot finish and the download has to be restarted wasting data limit set by ISP.

you would need to test the effectiveness of a reduced MTU via computer directly attached to the modem for accuracy. if you find a better MTU, you would then need to add TCPMSS rules via iptables in a start script to avoid path mtu issues, on the router. this functionality is already enabled when pppoe is in use, which typically has a reduced MTU
