I'm going to watch this one closely now. I've about had it with every mainstream general public router sharing the same crap SoC and hence exhibiting the same nonsense. As someone above mentioned, the V2 versions of the ASUS RTmumbleU are "supposed to" handle things better.

Not in my house. If DLink can get this SoC to behave, then so be it.

But I'm openly looking for alternatives to the Broadcom chipsets.
 
I have the dir-878 which is the same minus the USB ports.
I have to say for my limited use it works well. I picked it up new for $50 just to play with it. Runs great on dd-wrt also.
In my home range on both bands seems equivalent to my rt-ac68 routers. I get my full download and upload.
 
It matches the Netgear X4S and Synolgy AC2600 for much cheaper. Might be an option for budget buyers. But their lack of firmware support may cost them.
Same chipset with NTGR R6700,but maketing speed is higher, willing to see the performance test...
