Synology is my personal preference. But 'Virtualization Station' may make me go QNAP next.

Tried and or Used all but Thecus

Tried the New ReadyNAS devices (terible UI)
Running Synology 1513 at the office
Running ReadyNAS Pro6 at home (OS4)
Have a QNAP TS-451 on my desk testing.
Buying a QNAP TS-653 with 8GB RAM to replace the ReadyNAS Pro6 as my primary home NAS (and will repurpose the old ReadyNAS as my backup)

My thoughts on the TS-451 and why I reached the decision I did here:

I went QNAP.

I did both online demos and didn't feel like there wasn't much disparity between the two. If anything, I probably would have given Synology a slight edge.

However, for what I wanted (single-bay diskless), QNAP simply had the better hardware. In particular, the QNAP had an eSATA interface and multiple USB3 interfaces.
