Detailed configuration of LAN ports

Is it possible to configure the wired ports to be on different networks? I am currently using a Skydog cloud managed router which I love a lot and it has this feature (although it is missing other features I need like static routes and VPN server). The thing I love about this feature is that I can assign 2 of the ports to a different network and then use them to connect my home alarm system and Vonage device to the Internet.

You will need VLANs to do this. Simplest way to achieve it would be by running Tomato or DD-WRT, which should provide you with the necessary webui elements to configure this.

Can you run these on the RT-AC66U? I just pre-ordered the new 68U so I guess I will have to wait and see if others run those OSes on it.

DD-WRT is available, but not Tomato.

Thanks for the reply. Since this is going to be my first foray away from the regular consumer stuff (Linksys)...besides my short experiment with Skydog...do I lose anything by ditching the ASUS firmware for the DD-WRT or Tomato? I really do like all of the features that are in the ASUS firmware but would love to have the VLAN feature that is missing.

The two biggest losses are AiCloud, and performance. Neither Tomato or DD-WRT support hardware acceleration, so any internet connection faster than 200 Mbits (on an RT-AC68U) might be unable to work at full speed. The limit is closer to 125 Mbits with older routers such as the RT-AC66U.

DD-WRT also has a very big learning curve. Even just flashing it will require a good amount of research. Its stability might also be kinda hit-or-miss - no idea how stable the RT-AC68U support will be once the router launches.

One alternative would be for someone to guide you through manually configuring my firmware for your specific needs (once I release an RT-AC68U build). VLANs can be manually configured, I just don't really have the expertise to guide you with this.

Awesome...that is what I will likely do. Any guestimate on release timeline for the 68?

Considering the router itself isn't available yet and I don't have one either, it's impossible for me to tell.
