Devices associated but not completing connection

Looking for some help here after some exhaustive research on the issue. I'm running Merlin on a RT-AX86U, 3004.388.7 (which is one step back from the latest firmware). It's remote so I don't have access to it or the devices right now. The devices are two different Tuya-based iot devices. One is about 1 meter from the router, the other is much further away. Both are having the same issue where they are constantly associating with the router and then disassociating, and never fully connecting.

I've read several times the "sending station is leaving" is a normal log entry, however since these devices are never connected I'm trying to sort out how to remotely "reset" their connection or do something to get them connected. I'm accessing the router via the Asus App via "security link," and I also have SSH access to it via a VPN. If there's a command line method of resetting the connection or something, I'd love to hear it.

What I've tried: rebooting (many times), changing the various wifi settings -- right now the system is set to only 2.4 Auto (tried legacy, N only, etc), fixed channel, 20MHz, b/g protection is on. Professional settings are dumbed down to have roaming assistant off, beam forming, airtime fairness etc. switched off as well. I've also tried blocking their internet, binding to the AP, DHCP reservations, etc.

In the Asus remote app you can see the devices' connection strength changing, but they are marked as offline.
