Hi,

All of a sudden, my iPhones, Echo, and other devices are automatically selecting the 2.4GHz channel, instead of the 5GHz. My iPhone 7s and Echo 2nd generation used to always choose the 5GHz. Why would that be? 5GHz is up and running, and nothing has changed in terms of the physical layout of the devices or the placement of the router.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Has another router come on line near you using the 5Ghz band maybe? What channels are you using and have you tried different ones, and have you tried rebooting the R7800? I found I preferred to have two SSID's and choose which network I connect to, it may be worth trying that if all else fails. Seems odd though. Sounds like interference, but 2.4Ghz being the stronger signal seems to get chosen more often, hence for me having different networks for each channel. When I got my new XR500 the 5Ghz range was greater than the R7800, and not because its better, the R78000 has better 5Ghz, but because the R7800 had seemed to have faded a bit over two and a bit years, the new router one is like a lighthouse for wifi so maybe try another power supply too.
