Did Upgrade Reset Admin Password?

I recently went from 3004.388.8_2 to 3004.388.8_4 on my Asus RT-AX86U router and my admin password, which I can verify is correct, no longer allows me to log in to the router. Two questions:
  1. Has anyone else seen this?
  2. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get into the router?
Thanks for the help...

That upgrade shouldn't have effected the admin password.

Has anyone else seen this?
There have been multiple reports of this happening recently but in those cases it was a side effect of the router having been infected with malware. That only became apparent when they did a factory reset to try and get access and found that their router no longer worked properly.

So be careful, and make sure that you have an old copy of the "Save settings" file in case the worst happens.

P.S. The malware in question appeared to attack routers that had AiCloud enabled.

Thanks for that... How would I have an old copy of save settings? I've never thought to back that up in the past.

The chances of this being malware is very low.

If you are sure the password you are using is correct and it is no longer working then your only/best option to push the reset button and setup your router from scratch.

If you have a saved settings file then you could reset, download and revert to 8_2, factory reset, install your backup file and then try to upgrade again.

Sounds stupid by try the ages old default passwords used on some routers:
admin
or
password

Check that you haven't inadvertently hit the caps lock key when entering in your password. Passwords are case sensitive.
Last resort, try a reset via the reset button on the back of the unit or a hard factory reset.
