Sorry if this is a dumb question.

Is there a means to disable 'lpd' on the Merlin/Asus.

I've been using Merlin a couple months and it's IMO a big improvement over the vanilla. So I recently started removing unneeded services. Samba and ftp can be disabled w/o difficulty, but I don't see any lpd control.

No - I mean the line printer daemon.

It's holding ports 515 & 9100 open on the LAN.

It seems to be meant to support a USB printer plugged into the Asus, but I have no intention of using that.

Looks like you can't disable it from WebUI. On asuswrt-merlin you may add a script to do it, place following content to /jffs/scripts/services-start:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

service stop_lpd
and make script executable.
