Hi all,
I want to disable wps on my RP-AX56, there's no GUI so I wanna go the SSH way, I found this conf file (wl0.1_hapd.conf) that says "wps stats=2".
Can I edit this file to disable WPS?

WPS is already disabled on my main router, so is that even necessary?

If this extender is in wireless AiMesh configuration - it appears WPS is used by AiMesh for restoring lost connection to nodes. I did some experiments in the past with WPS disabled on the main router after setting up wireless AiMesh - failed nodes never re-connected. Make sure you really want to disable WPS before poking node's settings in SSH.

Thanks for your response.
The extender is indeed an AiMesh node but it's a wired connection.

Not sure if this makes a big difference because AiMesh by design can fail back to wireless backhaul when the Ethernet connection is lost for whatever reason. One possible workaround is selecting Ethernet backhaul in AiMesh settings, but folks found by trial and error it's not always better than Auto. Experiment and see what happens, but try not to disturb AiMesh too much. It's closed source, Asus is making constant changes, there is total AiMesh redesign going on... you don't know what will break.

My real question is if WPS is enabled on an AiMesh node but not on my main router, can someone exploit it?

Can you actually connect a device to your network using WPS or just some software scanner is showing it enabled?

I don't think I have a device that can connect via WPS.
Wifi analyzer shows wps/wpa2/wpa3 when showing details about the ssid that the AiMesh node is broadcasting.
Upnp scanner also lists the node as a WPS access point.

I've downloaded an app to my phone, tried connecting with a custom pin, pressed the button on the AiMesh node and the connection failed.
that means it's enabled but no one can connect?

This means software scanners not always show accurate AP information.
