Hello friends, as most people, I was getting together with my friends in a channel on Discord while playing a game together. But about a week ago, Discord got banned for an unknown reason in Turkey. I can connect from the browser with 1.1.1.1 DNS setting. Or if I activate my PrivateVpn with its Windows app, I can connect directly with the Discord app. And while having the Asus BE98 router, I can also add a Fusion VPN profile such as Wireguard, or L2TP with PrivateVPN settings and all good.

But I don't want my whole apps to connect to VPN because it's slowing down the pings and also the speed of my 1Gig internet. Connecting with just browser is not affecting the speed too much but then I can't use my shortcut keys on my Stream Deck which only works on the native Discord app. It doesn't control the browser. That's why I'm trying to find a way to just use the VPN with Discord app.

My VPN Service provider is PrivateVPN and they don't provide split tunneling feature.

What other option do I have?

I tried to use their Wireguard config file and created a new VPN. And in the allowed IPs, I put 162.159.128.0/19, 162.159.129.0/19, 162.159.130.0/19 assuming all the connections to these Discord ip ranges would go through VPN but unfortunately it doesn't work when I erase 0.0.0.0/0 and write those ips. I don't know why. Maybe discord has other ips too? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I wish there was an option to specifically select the app on the gui which would split tunnel the connections of the selected app via vpn.

I hope someone can suggest me some ideas. The worst case, I'll buy a new membership from another provider which will let me use split tunneling. But I dought if that's necessary while I have this great router with full of features. I guess I'm missing something but I don't know what it is.

Thank you very much in advance.

Here's an idea for you.

If you have a spare laptop or mini pc you can setup the vpn on that device and install Privoxy on it. Then use Proxifier on your PC to route Discord traffic through Privoxy device running the vpn.

Wow, thank you. I have a RP5 connected to my router all the time. Maybe I can set the VPN and the privoxy there and connect through it with Discord. Right?

Yes it can be done. First check out Proxifier If it supports http proxies (Since Privoxy only support http not https) If It doesn't then you will have to find a different proxy server to install on your RP5.

  • Proxy protocols: SOCKS4, SOCKS4A, SOCKS5, HTTPS, and HTTP (HTTP connections only)
These are the protokols for Proxifier.

But I think it would be a problem for Discord. I don't know if Discord will accept an HTTP proxy.

Nice then it will work with Privoxy. For Proxifier you can get a 31 day trial to test It out.

Privoxy is free open source.

You will need Proxifier windows app to tunnel discord traffic to the proxy.
It works Discord connects through the proxy with proxifier.

I'm a little struggling to set the privoxy on the RP5. I'm installing it on an ubuntu server that is installed in a docker. The RP5's external ip address in the network is 192.168.50.250. And when I created the docker container for the ubuntu, I made 8118:8118 port binding. But somehow if I choose to listen 127.0.0.1, I can make it work in the docker's terminal with a curl test. But when I change the listening ip to 192.168.50.250 which is the RP5's ip address in the network, and when I try to send a curl command from my PC, It can't connect to the proxy.

Oh nevermind I decided to do it directly on the RP5 instead of creating dockers. And it works great. But now I'm trying to add apps to Proxifier. I set the default Proxy server informations but I couldn't find where to add Discord :)
