Does RT-AC3200 ever beep?

Something in my network closet randomly emits a 1 second beep, including 4 times last night. A few times, the router also rebooted.

Does the ASUS RT-AC3200 have audible alarms?
The User Guide doesn't mention that.
[It's running Asuswrt-Merlin version 378.56_0.]

I had fingered the UPS but I can rule it out after moving the UPS out of the closet.

There's no speaker on the router. However most UPS do have a speaker that they use to alert you of a power issue.

Try pulling the plug of your UPS from the wall outlet, you'll see if it sounds similar.

Good idea.

The random beeps do sound like the UPS's beeps. The weird thing is the UPS doesn't emit a single beep unless the power goes out for about 2 seconds then comes back in time to cut off the 4-beep alarm. It's happened enough times to rule out hypothesis so something must be wrong in the UPS.

Also check your switch if you are using one. I have a Rosewill 410LX 8 port Gb switch which likes to beep when an interface goes up/down (not when physically disconnected and not mentioned anywhere in the docs). Whenever I reboot my router I get two double-beeps coinciding with the interface state.

Could be a warning that the battery needs replacing. Typical UPS battery life is around 3-5 years.

The UPS has a different beep pattern (with lights) to signal a bad battery. It's never supposed to emit a single beep.

The random beeps must be coming from the Ambient weather station next to the network closet.

So many devices have similar beeps with no way to identify them. Logs are much better.

My smoke alarms do that beep when the batteries run down... and same with the CO alarms - tone is oddly non-directional, so hard to find sometimes ;)

Yes, and since all the connected units beep together, the only way to tell which one has the low battery or spider fault or whatever is to be looking through the right unit's little hole for an LED flash the next time it comes around.
