Ds1511+ & sftp / rsync

New Around Here
I want to buy a NAS and need some help if you guys don't mind.

I have a bunch of personal data I want to back up such as 200 gigs of photos my family photos, tons of music, computer backups, movies, etc. Also, I run a website which receives uploads that I want to nightly backup on my home NAS.

I am looking at the DS1511+ for two reasons. First, the five drive capacity with expandability is fantastic. Second, I have had bad experiences with RAID and want solid hardware from a reputable company if I am going to do it again. Third, I am not a networking professional and don't really want to hack together my own DIY box.

Here are my two questions:

1. In regards to my personal data, I want to restrict access to certain areas. For example, I would like my wife to be able to access a portion of the NAS to backup her work files and what not, but I would rather not give her access to the whole partition over the network as she may accidently wipe it all. What are my options in regards to this?

2. In regards to the nightly backups of my website data, what is the best approach. I really need the most advice in this area. I have a VPS which requires a private key (SSH) to access (so not a straight up password). One option is SFTP which may work because the files on my server don't change and I could simply have the SFTP system skip existing files and just transmit new ones. Another option is RSYNC which I know does a lot more yet I have never tried to implement it or fully comprehend it. In regards to RSYNC, how would it be set up? Would I need it on both my server and NAS or on just one of them? I am reluctant to install apache and what not on my NAS (if that is required for RSYNC) because I am not a network wizard and I feel that might open some security holes... Or maybe there is another option that I have overlooked?

What advice can you guys give me regarding this and the DS1511+ or another NAS for that matter?

Thanks in advance!
