Hey guys - bit of an update on this issue.

So firstly I've tried the 1.32NA firmware that Synology mentioned, with obviously no success. D-Link have finally got back to me and insisted that based on the symptoms that it must be a problem with the way the NAS is presenting data to the router and XBox. They've also said they have no interest in pursuing the issue further since they are convinced it is not their fault.

Interestingly, two other Synology forum members have said they are seeing the exact same problem. All three of us have entirely different routers (one D-Link, one Belkin, one Linksys) - the only common thread is that all are gigabit routers. So it is rather looking like D-Link have a point (no matter how abysmally they conveyed it!).

I've sent a few follow-up mails to Synology over the past week or so and haven't yet had a response - the other two forum members also suggest they have open tickets, so I guess we're now waiting to see what Synology say when they investigate further.

EDIT: Funilly enough, as soon as I sent this post, I got a response back from Synology saying that they're looking into whether the issue could be related to auto-negotiation and will let me know as soon as they discover something. As always, I'll keep this thread updated so that anyone else who runs into similar problems won't have as much trouble!

Hi John,

Sorry - I thought I'd updated this thread with the resolution. Basically it turned out that although everyone was convinced that it was the NAS at fault, the problem was solved in an XBox Service update. I don't know if it was a genuine bug on the XBox side or whether they simply ended up having better fault tolerance in accepting UPnP connections, but for whatever reason the problem went away.

Just to reassure you, a number of other people that were having the same problem indicated that the dash update solved their issues too. So as long as your XBox is up-to-date you shouldn't run into any problems.
