New Around Here
Hello All,

Waiting for ADSL to be installed in my home office this week in addition to my Cable Modem. I am looking for a solution that will allow me to handle both connections at the same time.

Ideally I would like to be able to choose what traffic goes through which connection (when both connections are active). Video / Chat / Browsing via Connection A where Gaming via Connection B. Even better there were profiles that I could choose to change the way traffic is shaped. Also a good QoS system would be nice as well.

Important to note that my geographical location is Costa Rica. The cable modem goes out via the Carribean and the ADSL goes out via the Pacific. My ping into the US is about 50ms on the cable modem. Not sure on the ADSL yet.

My options are buying a Plug n Play router such as:

TL-R470T+
TL-ER6120
TL-ER5120
RV042G

I have an old AMD XP2200 which is just sitting around that I could use, however I'll need to add some LAN cards to it.

I'll also add that I don't know anything about routing except for setting up port forwarding at a router level.

I do have wireless in my house via a N66U router which I currently use between my Cable Modem and SR2016T. I would most likely configure the N66U as an Access Point and connect it after the SR2016T. Obviously the Cable Modem and ADSL line will be connected directly to the router weather it be home brew or plug n play.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Nick

RV042 is preferred by some of the pros who hang out in the Forums.

I have no experience with dual-WAN TP-Links.

I've own the TL-ER5120 (quad WAN) and TL-ER6120 dual WAN). If you have more than one WAN from the ISP then you choose what you need quad or dual WAN on these two will suite your needs. I use TL-ER6120 no issues with it! Made well made. They do have lower priced ones. You should get what you need though.
