So far everything been stable enough I had remove that extra switch and connected the second ESR-9850 into the main ESR-9850 no issues with 1.09 firmware.

Gentlemen it's a wrap!

Test completed! :D PasseD

Glitch

Main DHCP router wasn't as speedy with 1.09, so I had reflashed it to 1.10. Left the other one at 1.09 since it's just being used as AP. Weird how this is with their firmware but in all everyting works so I can't complain. I waiting for SNB to test ESR-9855G adds 100mw instead of 50mW etc..

I did try that setting in ALG for IPsec. No change. I did hear back from Engenius support. they suggested resetting the router and checking the WAN page. In the meantime however I did discover something else that wasn't working; Xbox Live. According the the Xbox 360 network test it could reach the internet, just not the Live service itself. The only way I could get around it was to put my Xbox on a static IP and add it to the DMZ.

Which firmware are you two using? Everything working plaining on testing VPN on the wife DELL. I hope these other issues don't keep showing up on my side. I have Wii Connect Active. I should see if I can even pull down the data off on the Wii. Crazy. The issue I have is the the 50mW transmitter is weaker on the second floor so I am force to use Belkin N+ in AP mode to take care of that weakness. I could still use the ESR-9850 but -60-69dBm is where I would be at.. No more drops though on the ESR-9850. I've fixed that in the configuration on ESR-9850. Kind of dump how they have certain items enable. As a router is so quick and downloads speed testing wow wee! Wireless is very strong on the floor it's on though, today is nice out I'll be working on my car and will be testing ESR-9850 outdoor wireless signal reach.

I'm using 1.10. I'll try a hard reset and see if that makes a difference.

Tipstir, just to confirm though, your wife's VPN connected fine?

I can't test it until she brings her laptop home? So as I test the VPN I'll post it. Firmware 1.09 and firmware 1.10 there seems to be some thing in firmware 1.10 that's not present in 1.09. I am flying though web sites. (Facebook) one of the worst ones but no issues even a bad day. I am able to speed through it. You know I've decided to do this.

But the ESR-9855G - DHCP Router, use ESR-9855 (1) - AP + ESR-9855 (2) - AP This would be the best way for me now. But since the ESR-9855G is not available yet just have to use the 3 reported below:

I am going to do a outdoor field test now with one of my wireless netbooks connected to the ESR-9855 AP. I wanted to see how it goes in -dBm away from the house in feet and into the woods I'll which over to that in now..

Field Testing ESR-9850 802.11g/n

Today had taken a netbook and did a walk around my property and headed out deep into the wooded area also. From the house I can pick-up 6 APs once I go deeper I can pick-up 10 more. I see everyone is mostly using Cisco Linksys and 802.11g only. Some 802.11n. But anyway my signal is really strong using the ESR-9850 in AP mode.

I still get -63dBm over 150Ft and if I double that it's -73dBm. Closer to the house it's -56dBm and near where I have the AP it's -42dBm. I had ran two test with Belkin N+ and ESR-9850 both in 802.11g/n mode. ESR-9850 had a stronger signal than the Belkin N+ there was a point that both match at -73dBm. But that was only one time.

The Belkin N+ I was seeing -10 to -20dBm difference than the ESR-9850. So I decided to disable the Belkin N+ radio and see if the ESR-9850 signal was even better. A few dBm increases. But in any case I might as well just use the ESR-9850 without running the Belkin N+ just to gain a few -dBm on the second floor as the signal from the first floor is so strong that it covers the entire house and my property.

Note: This also beats the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 using DD-WRT with 71mW TX in my prior testings results. ESR-9850 with 50mW and stronger hardware blew alway the Buffalo results.

Normally for fun I would just jump into my car with the wireless netbook and drive alway and see where the signal drops off.

Testing VPN tonight?

Adding (joined) the wife business laptop to the network
Launched Cisco VPN Client 5.x
Client on the Companies Access Link
Got prompted for RSA
Typed in passcode
Waited a second or 2
Bang!
Welcome bla,
Open Outlook
All email appeared she's up!

So I don't understand why some of you are reporting issues with VPN access?

The Blues

Wife reported to me after the fact, that she had issues with VPN dropping connections. This is crazy! But I've reported ALG Layer issue to the Senao/EnGenius contact. Funny how fast they would work to solve that issue but I can't get them to tell what the heck is the processor speed of the ESR-9855G or the how much RAM is in it. Like it's a big secret? sHH!

Anyway today I had some brown outs due to a storm rolling in where the wireless goes off the radar scope. Good to see how well the dual ESR-9850s held up or reset themselves without my interaction like going to it and unplug the power. The main one had taken a very long while to connect back to the cable modem. The AP one couldn't get internet access. I had to unplug it and then re-plug it. Funny how Belkin N+, Trendnet, Buffalo, Netgear and DLINK don't have these issues. If it happens again? ???

Enable UPnP on the router and try again.

Are you from Senao EnGenius? UPnP is enabled always still VPN issues. Some features are nice but, if I had dual WAN I would use this router for P2P only and still use Belkin for managing the rest of the house.

QOS issue?

Long time lurker, First Time poster.

I just received my 9850. Seems to be doing the trick so far. Replaced a DLINK 655 that was loosing connection with 1.21 Firmware. The Dlink would not let me upgrade the firmware so I thought why not spend 50 to try this router out.

I am running Firmware 1.1.0 that I got off EnGenius website

I am trying to add my Ooma VoIP system to the QOS screen I want to add the IP but when I put in the IP I get error message saying that I can't leave the field blank.

Also another small request, can anyone point me to an article on wireless security. I currently have no security other than hiding my SSID. I have friends/family that come over and it was always easier just to give them the SSID to get them internet access. In the past I have not worried about neighbors leaching off my connection, but now with Windows 7 home groups being used on my LAN, I am a lot more worried about un-invited guest on my network being able to hurt my other computers. So I want something that will lock the door enough to have people look elsewhere, but also not make it so hard to get on that I spend time being tech support guy.

would this router be good for wired gaming??

Well yes wired router with gaming and P2P download no VPN though. It does handle over 19,722 maximum simultaneous session count. That should be more than enough you need. I going to try to sell my two for $50 bucks each. I'll be out $4 bucks though. Includes the box etc..
