anyway here is a snippet from my log file, all these stop/start/stop/starts look weird, is this normal for ESR9850 ? ..notice they occur at the same time, down to the second. anyway this is on auto-pilot, no particularly special or weird settings or anything:

I got the ESR9850 from NewEgg a little less than 2 months ago. I love this ESR9850 router but it has a little quirk. There are certain websites that will continually sit at "page loading" FOREVER and NEVER load. (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) ..I have tried opendns, my ISP dns, google dns, and dns relay. I have tried updating the firmware and software. I have even tried vpn with a u.s. address and no success on these webpages. I have tried going back to the old Linksys and everything works fine - pages load.

Example would be:

http://us.gizmodo.com/ (I cannot load this site with ESR9850, hangs at "waiting for...")..but pings are good. that's just one example but there are quite a few others. the sites I require daily all work though. just occasionally I run into sites that refuse to load with this router.

on a sidenote the greatest thing about this router is the speed. I can fully use my fiber connection now. I have seen d/l speeds of 103 Mb/s from my ISP (.jp), whereas my Linksys would max out around 27-30 Mb/s. For about 2yrs I thought that was as fast as I could go, thinking this was normal. I love this router.

I'm just wondering if I need a warranty repair/replacement due to DNS issue and my router services are always stopping/starting. this may be normal but wanted to check because the log file looks weird.

On the wireless side don't have it set to schedule by default it will check the wireless channel every half hour.

Sounds like your system has issues and not the router. What OS are you running? When last have you check the system for pest, junk, bad registry entries and such? I would suggest you run a the freeware program called IOBIT Advance System Care Free on your see. Just install and run and see what it finds on your system. Then go from there. Right now I can access that site you have posted. I use Google Chrome.

thanks tipstir I tried the IOBIT Advance System Care Free but still no luck

I ran it but didnt find any spyware and (for another example) I still can't load http://kotaku.com/ it just sits there at "waiting for...." but I can load http://www.kotaku.jp/ fine. If I go back to the old Linksys both sites load fine.

is the log file normal ? should the services constantly stop and start like that ?

No, the services should not constantly start and stop.

To rule out malware on a computer, disconnect everything (WAN and LAN) from the router, power cycle it and leave it for awhile. Then reconnect a computer and check the log.

Faulty router. But you can do this. Backup the config and do a full factory restore this will blow out the settings. Restore your settings. If you see the start/stop on the LAN/WAN side then the router is faulty or firmware didn't installed correctly.
