Experience using PIA Wireguard on your router (ASUSWRT-MERLIN)

Is anybody currently using the (unofficial) workaround for running a PIA Wireguard VPN client through their ASUS router (ASUSWRT-MERLIN firmware)? Or has anyone else tried it before, even if you’re no longer using this implementation?

I had been considering trying it out, but I wanted folks’ impressions first:
-Stability (router)?
-Stability (vpn)?
-Interoperability?
-What’s the deal with Wireguard and killswitch? I remember reading someplace that the client acts as a kill switch anyway, confining traffic regardless—but I’m looking for more info.
-DNS issues? (And DNS leak issues?)
-General impressions?
-Tips? Tricks? Hints? Pitfalls?
-Other issues?

Thanks!

I am exploring the exact same thing. Ive seen various github repos, but some look pretty intense for my skill level. Did you come across anything?

Sorry, I don't have any answers to your questions but will say that I've seen some inquiries regarding PIA WireGuard on a router over at r/PrivateInternetAccess. You may find some helpful information over there.

I am currently doing this on a GT-BE98 Pro.

-Stability (router)? No issues. Throughput varies but typically I see >900Mbps up/down
-Stability (vpn)? No issues except having to periodically regenerate a connection profile when PIA clean out WG sessions (guessing server reboots / maintenance). But I rarely have to do this more than once a week.
-Interoperability? No issues
-What’s the deal with Wireguard and killswitch? I have one client routed via the WG tunnel using VPN director. If the WG client drops all traffic will stop.
-DNS issues? (And DNS leak issues?) If router and client is congfigured correctly should be no issues. None I have encountered however I use a local pi-hole setup anyway.
-General impressions? It works for my needs. If you can live with knowing the connection can drop at any time and are okay dealing with that I say go for it. If you need reliability, stick with OVPN.

Thanks! 2 quick follow ups:

1. What did you mean by…
“If you can live with knowing the connection can drop at any time” (?)

2. Is there any way to automate the generation of new connection profiles?
