Tried updating an AX58U with old Merlin software to latest Asus and stuck on Merlin, did factory reset from GUI and reset button, still says Merlin. Wifi not functional and wired LAN working.

always says 388_7 is available after reset.

Will try the latest Merlin software manually next.

Make sure your using the correct firmware file for your router. Unhook any USB devices if any reboot and try again. Make sure your flashing from the UI with a ethernet cable directly to your computer.

yes correct AX58U software, no USB devices, used ethernet cable. ended up with latest Merlin and working okay, router would not take stock Asus, tried many resets always stuck on Merlin

What was the last stock Asus firmware you had on the router ? Try installing stock 386.45898 available on there website for the Ax58U. If that takes simply install the latest then factory reset.

*Due to core software module upgrade, if you want to upgrade to this version, please must update your router to 3.0.0.4.386.45898 first.

When I installed this maybe 4 years ago I put Merlin on it, came back to visit and same router software, hard to say what was on it.
