thank you
i m not a big fan of beta's , but i hope they fixed up 5ghz random drop issue .

At last the routers USB drives USB2 and USB3 appear on win 7 explorer, before appeared only on mobiles, tablets, etc, not PCs. Bug, router reporting on Network Map double the drive's capacity, hence my full drives are 50% free and double in size, I'd love that if it was true!!!!

I would love to be able to translate "wireless watchdog" in any technical language.
Never heard about such concept...

A watchdog timer (WDT; sometimes called a computer operating properly or COP timer, or simply a watchdog) is an electronic timer that is used to detect and recover from computer malfunctions. During normal operation, the computer regularly restarts the watchdog timer to prevent it from elapsing, or "timing out". If, due to a hardware fault or program error, the computer fails to restart the watchdog, the timer will elapse and generate a timeout signal. The timeout signal is used to initiate corrective action or actions. The corrective actions typically include placing the computer system in a safe state and restoring normal system operation.

It probably resets the wireless radio if it detects there are problems. This is purely an educated guess though.

If that's what it is, that's kind of sad. They can't get a stable wireless driver so they have to make a workaround to restart it?

Sad?

I think that this is great, this is military level of stability. Or at least usability.

And they will fix the wireless driver - the issue is that there is always a new one down the road.

No, that's a generic term for watchdog timer.

This feature is likely to be either a 'usage counter' or one like this:
http://www.networkworld.com/reviews/2007/040207-newbury-test.html

..WiFi Watchdog software to disable objects when they move out of defined boundaries, called locales.

http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/121508-trapeze-newbury.html

..which can precisely locate -- and block -- unauthorized users trying to enter networks

Kris404, that is even better than the original definition.

Wonder how it works - a Wireless Watchdog google search gives 'About 2,980,000 results (in 0.25 seconds)' of useless info.

Those who reported a problem browsing your USB shares in previous releases, can you see if it works properly now? I talked with Asus earlier this week about the issue, I don't know however if they implemented my fix or not. Just curious.

Back to 542 and it has been 12 hours without a single issue. I think I'll stay for there for a while.

Asus,

When you break things, you do it in style!

Im running two AC68 routers and one of them is set up as Media Bridge.

WiFi 2.4Ghz band; The link speed and file transfer was far better with firmware .501.

Media Bridge now has red X on the Network Map page, and it shows a Parent AP status; Disconnected. Even though Media Bridge is connected to main router AC68.

Asus, put the Eggnog away and get back to work.
