One of the things that was always touted to me as making Linux superior to Windows was NOT having to reboot after making some little change. I've never in 30 years heard of rebooting after changing a password. Even Windows doesn't require that. You learn something new every day.
That was always a myth. You have to reboot linux for the same reasons you have to reboot windows. Linux just doesn't force you to lol. But I can certainly understand not wanting to reboot the router if not needed which might break things on the network, or maybe break the router or shorten its lifespan. I agree with above poster that maybe notify the user a reboot might be nescessary.
