you can use AC66U FW is the same router R stay for retail.

is this a dead product now that 68 is out?

Really think Asus hasn't forgotten the rt ac66u and R but are trying to get some of the nastier glitches and problems out of the 68. They are pretty good about back porting most of the updates to the older device if possible with the different cpu and rf hardware but it takes a bit longer. Much better than linksys or netgear about this. Patience usually does pay, in this case

I felt it was dead and was forgotten about so I bought the 68R.... Big upgrade in performance for me. Night and day difference.

From which router and firmware version?

I think the "this router is dead" thing comes around every 3-6 months.

They are still very actively working on it, and here's the proof:

A lot of major changes in recent firmware releases, and they can't devote resources to debugging and testing it simultaneously on ALL models. Give Asus time, and once it's debugged on certain models, they will finalize testing and debugging on the other models as well.

that's good to hear. I was just curious as this is my first ASUS router.

look forward to seeing a new fw eventually.

Actually, I've been wondering about this for some while too. A new firmware every month had been optimal, but as a developer I understand that this is not easy to achieve. I have some public project that I should have pushed during the holidays, but didn't have the time, as my family got all my attention for the first time in a long period.
