John ... There's an important OpenSSL update being released on March 1st. Here is an extract of OpenSSL's pre-release advisory:

The OpenSSL project team would like to announce the forthcoming release of OpenSSL versions 1.0.2g, 1.0.1s.

These releases will be made available on 1st March 2016 between approximately 1300-1700 UTC. They will fix several security defects with maximum severity "high."

Will you be able to include this in your next release?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just need to see the changelog and make sure it's not something that will break something else :) (I had already picked up 1.0.2f, which was not anything really important)

EDIT - 1 March
So far....so good.....
Code:
Mar 1 08:53:59 openvpn[4819]: OpenVPN 2.3.10 arm-unknown-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [EPOLL] [MH] [IPv6] built on Mar 1 2016

Hi John, I need your advice. Today I replaced my asus rt 66NU with your latest fork for a Asus RT AC68U. On this device I tested the Standard asus firmware. I notice that range is not as good as I had... is the Merlin firmware better in range compared to asus Standard firmware? Or should I use your fork?

Hello

I am using 16E1 on an AC66U. My internet connection package is 1gbps.

However, when I do a speedtest.net test, the download is 200mbps, upload 900mbps. How do I improve the download speped? QOS is already disabled.

Is hardware acceleration on? It needs to be for those speeds.

He most likely does, since he got 900Mbit on the upload part of the speedtest.

Why the upload throughput differs from download is the real question...

Double check the HW acceleration status on the tools page to see what the router thinks is going on. Also, if you change any setting that will automatically change the status of HW acceleration (QOS or IP Traffic), you should reboot to make the sure things are correctly updated.

IIRC, there is also a possibility that there may be a collision between HW Acceleration and IPv6 on the MIPs based routers. You might try disabling IPv6 if you have it active.

Hi

last night I was on my tablet and my internet seemed to stop working. I tried signing into my n66u router page to see if anything is up, but I got greeted by the following:

"Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC68U.
To access the settings of RT-AC68U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number."

To solve this I forgot my wifi network and reconnected and I had my internet back and could get into the router page.

Not sure why this happened?

Im using a N66u on 16E1.

Thanks

The webpage you encountered may be unrelated to your internet problems.

The "settings have been updated..." webpage is usually a browser problem that does not reflect any actual router problems. Clear your browser cache (or use your browser's Incognito/Privacy mode, which avoids local caching).

Hi John, slobodan, sbailey4 and Nullity

thanks for chipping in. The HW acceleration was on. The issue was fixed by resetting the router to default (via GUI), then reconfiguring the settings from scratch. Strange but yeah...

Hi John

Are you able to compile some kind of march snapshot release including latest openssl patches ?
And all the other nice commits since 17BA ?

Until final release is ready ... would be very nice :)

BTW: running 17BA since release day without any problems nor reboot.

Cheers

I agree, if he was using a N66 router but the webpage mentioned AC68U in the message then sounds like browser cache. Assuming he also has an AC68U router as well as the N66 both managed from the same browser/PC.

If you are using DNS Filter to assign custom DNS servers (bypassing using dnsmasq on the router), and try to access the gui by name, asus.router.com, you may see this. Someone registered the domain asus.router.com with screenshots of some AC68U pages. Use the router ip address instead or make an appropriate entry in your client's hosts file.

Hi @john9527 Did you get my last PM? I'm not hassling for a reply because I know you're busy, I just wanted to make sure the notification didn't get lost.

Does anyone have a settings recommendation for online gaming on PS4 via 2.4Ghz band?

Router; AC68
Firmware; 16E1

Thanks.

Hi

Just to clarify I don't own a AC68U, I just copy/pasted that message I got from a google search, never realised it said ac68u, but it said the same thing but in my case for the N66U.
