I use DD WRT to mount the unmounted jffs, then reinstall Merlin 384.5.
But select "Format JFFS partition at next boot" and reboot, jffs unmounted again.

I didn't find any bad block message in log.
Before we find the real reason, we cannot find solid solution for this problem.
As to DD WRT can mount JFFS correctly, can I say it's a software problem?
Or that's hardware issue, then return to Asus?

Have you enabled jfs partition in Merlin firmware

You mean koolshare firmware fixed "jffs unmounted" bug?
Done use it it's not a trustworthy firmware, just follow the instructions he gave on formatting because that works in Merlin firmware.

Judging by your posts the issue is more then likely on your end, not the firmware. Factory reset and start fresh.

Yes!

1. First you have to do a factory reset before installing the firmware.
2. After the factory reset, Make a Complete power cycle
3. Turn off router
4. Unplug power
5. Turn it back on for 5 second to drain any residual electric charge
6. Turn it back off
7. Plug back the power
8. Turn it on and let it boot normally
9. Install the new firmware and perform another factory reset.

17. Administration -> System -> Activate these 3 settings
  • Format JFFS partition at next boot: Yes
  • Enable JFFS custom scripts and configs: Yes
  • Enable SSH: LAN only
18. Apply -> Reboot (You have to Apply before Reboot)

Please lets keep things evidence based and not confuse users. There is no documented "JFFS unmounted bug", nor is there anything Koolshare does to "fix" it. His problem is simply user error.

"jffs unmounted" is not a single case for myself,go through other cases from google search, the source of "jffs unmounted" refer to "Format JFFS partition at next boot" .

Just because other people encountered it doesn’t mean it’s not user error...
